NEW DEVELOPMENTS FOR 2018/19 - Read our blog, 'La Rosière is creating a new mountainside of skiing for 2018/19' to find our more or head to our What's New page!
Recognised for its high level of family-friendliness La Rosière has been awarded the highest official ‘Famille Plus Montagne’ award. La Rosière ski resort is also linked with La Thuile in Italy. La Rosiere is located in the heart of the Haute Tarentaise and set in a forest on the Italian border. It is a friendly resort in a very attractive setting. Sunny and south facing, it offers panoramic views over the Isere valley to Les Arcs and La Plagne.
La Rosière ski resort (linked with La Thuile in Italy) is the only Savoyard resort to offer an international ski area: 198km of marked pisted runs (Espace San Bernardo).
In terms of location, the resort has a lot to offer. It is built beside the road that zigzags its way up from Bourg-St-Maurice to the Petit-St-Bernard pass to Italy. The ski resort and ski slopes are south facing, attracting a lot of sunshine and have great views of the Vallées of Les Arcs and La Plagne. It is also close to the Vanoise National Park – the first to open in France.
La Rosière has controlled development, so buildings are constructed using traditional methods and are in keeping with local taste. The ski resort of La Rosière was created on 23rd December 1960 with 1 ski lift, 1 ski lift attendant, 1 hotel with a restaurant/bar and 1 ski instructor! It became an international ski resort in 1985 when the new Italian link to La Thuile was opened. Since then it has been transformed into a first-class ski resort without letting go of its traditions or village atmosphere and is one of Ski Collection’s most popular ski resorts.
Every Sunday the Tourist office of La Rosière will welcome you to the ice bar especially created in the shape of the number 50, where you can enjoy hot mulled wine or a hot chocolate and find out the week’s activities and events within the ski resort.
La Rosiere vs Les Eucherts
The original village of La Rosiere turned 50 in 2011 but the most recent development has been in Les Eucherts, highlighted by high-calibre slope-side accommodation. Les Eucherts is a newly developed area of La Rosiere which sits to the East of the main village. Each has their own amenities including shops, a high-speed chairlift and ski lesson meeting points. The development of Les Eucherts incorporates some excellent shops and restaurants, the tourist office, an ice rink and bowling complex and a state-of-the-art nursery as well as ski-school facilities, all only a few metres apart. It’s all extremely family friendly so it’s no surprise that the village has the highest official ‘Famille Plus Montagne’ award.
No need to take the car if you want to get from the centre of La Rosiere to Les Eucherts. Just take a short walk through the forest! The forest footpath is around one kilometre long and floodlit at night. It’s the perfect place for a stroll, whatever time of the day or night.
LA ROSIERE SKI AREA
With a high sunshine record (thanks to the south facing aspect of La Rosière) and an excellent snow record (with north facing slopes in Italy), l’Espace San Bernardo offers something for every type of skier. La Rosière has the reputation of being the ski resort with the most snow in the Savoy.
The chairs and drags out of the village take you to the centre of the slopes. If you take the lift up to Col de La Traversette you can get over the ridge and to the lifts which will link you to Italy at Belvedere. There are a few on-piste challenges for experts. The top half of La Rosière mountain below Le Roc Noir and Col De La Traversette boasts steep and interesting red runs.
There are good nursery ski slopes near the main village of La Rosière/Les Eucherts and the blue runs just above are ideal for progression, making it a perfect resort for families with children and beginners. For intermediates, the main La Rosière ski area is a broad open mountainside offering straightforward red pistes. The Fontaine Froide red run which drops 750m vertical through the woods to the Ecudets chair is a good run for intermediates.
In December 2018, Espace San Bernardo ski area is spending 15 million Euros on expanding the ski area. Plans include building five new red graded pistes, bringing the total to 198km of runs, and adding two new 6-seater lifts. The addition of the new Mont-Valaisan peak will raise the altitude to 2800m and create lots of secured new free-riding opportunities.
La Rosière is the only ski resort in France to be able to offer you heli-skiing; it's hard to beat. Whether you are a skier or a boarder why not take part in an unforgettable trip with a La Rosière ski holiday, offering you easy piste access, well-prepared pistes, and a very well maintained resort.

LA ROSIERE SKIING
LA ROSIERE BEGINNERS
La Rosière is renowned for being a very good choice for beginners. The village is well-designed for easy access between accommodation, ski hire, ski school and nursery slopes, which is ideal for families and beginners. There are also 3 free lifts close to the main village.
LA ROSIERE INTERMEDIATES
La Rosière is ideal for intermediate skiers, providing a great choice of blue and red runs on both sides of the Italian border. This fantastic terrain spreads out to the peaks of Le Belvedere and Chaz Dura. As you enter Italy, you can take the combined Nuova and San Bernardo runs down to La Thuile in time for a pizza lunch.
LA ROSIERE EXPERTS
There is still plenty of skiing for advanced skiers, despite La Rosière being renowned as a family location. There are various black runs in Espace San Bernardo which make up approximately 15% of the terrain. The most challenging piste is thought to be the 3.6km Franco Berthod piste.
LA ROSIERE OFF-PISTE
There is a designated free ride area around the top of the Educets chairlift as well as off-piste areas between the runs. For the more adventurous, there is some more serious off-piste accessible just outside the lift network.
LA ROSIERE SNOWBOARDERS
Snowboarding is best for beginners in this area. There is a terrain park served by the Poletta drag lift just above the village centre.
LA ROSIERE CROSS COUNTRY
There are 12km/7 miles of trails near the Altiport. There is a medium slope, 2 difficult slopes and a very difficult slope.
